A frac sand moratorium would raise issues of property rights, limit economic development, and may not be necessary, according to county planning commission members who voted last week against recommending one.
“My constituents who have contacted me and who I represent don’t feel a moratorium is necessary,” said Commissioner Marcia Ward, who sits on the planning commission. She said the county’s existing zoning ordinance adequately addresses the permitting process for sand mines.
