A portion of the Nobles County bridge collapsed last week as a contractor was working on the bridge deck. The company was contracted to remove three inches of concrete off the top of the County State Aid Highway 1 bridge near Brewster when a section of the bridge gave way under the milling machine. No one was hurt.
Tim Worke of the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota's highway division said this failure underscores the need for more infrastructure investment.
According to Finance & Commerce, the failed portion of the 40-foot-wide bridge is about nine feet wide and 50-feet long. No one can say with certainty at this point why the failure happened.
