Minnesota ethanol maker hit with $800,000 fine

A farmer-owned ethanol plant in Atwater, Minn., has paid a $800,000 fine for illegally discharging wastewater into a waterway and then supplying the government with inaccurate information about it, the state Pollution Control Agency said Friday. The agency said Bushmills Ethanol, Inc., discharged wastewater with unauthorized amounts of dissolved minerals or salts and other pollutants into a judicial ditch flowing into the middle fork of the Crow River in Kandiyohi County.
