Since the Aug. 1, 2007 collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis, bridge inspections here and nationwide have taken on more urgency.
But Minnesota is improving its "on-time" record when it comes to bridge inspections, according to a top bridge official with the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Tom Styrbicki, MnDOT's state bridge construction and maintenance engineer, told Finance & Commerce on Monday that in 2010, more than 99 percent of bridges in the state were inspected on or before their scheduled date.
