Frustration in Cannon Falls as Pine Island interchange moves ahead

A former state representative is asking why construction plans for a new intersection in Pine Island are moving ahead while a dangerous intersection in Cannon Falls still needs to be addressed.

Sandy Wollschlager of Cannon Falls said state data shows that the intersection of U.S. 52 and Goodhue County Road 24 consistently ranks in the top 100 for the most costly accidents in the state. So why is the Minnesota Department of Transportation building a new $35 million interchange at U.S. 52 and Olmsted County Road 12 to accommodate a planned biobusiness park even though construction has not yet begun? Ideally, Wollschlager said she would like to see that money shifted from Pine Island to Cannon Falls.
