Plymouth Avenue Bridge closed after check discovers corrosion

The Plymouth Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis closed Friday as a precaution, pending further investigation after a routine inspection discovered corrosion on cables that run through the bridge.
The city said workers found signs of corrosion in bridge "tendons,'' which are cables under tension that run through the box-girder bridge and are not visible from the exterior. Further checking on the extent of the corrosion led the Department of Public Works to close the bridge until it is evaluated more completely.
